Puppy Aptitude Testing

Choosing the right puppy for the right home!

Getting a dog or puppy on impulse is rarely a good idea.  There are so many breeds to choose from and the secret to getting that "perfect pet", is doing your homework.

Aptitude testing is a great tool to use to help determine if a certain dog would be right for your home.  Puppies and older dogs can be evaluated.

The majority of breeders today are willing to have their puppies tested and are interested in the results.  After all, no breeder wants a puppy returned after a few months.

Many guide dog trainers and organizations such as police departments, rely on this test to help them chose dogs that will work out the best for their situation.

The test scores the dog on different responses and the score is then interpreted to see if the dog has the right temperament, energy level, etc. for you or your family.

Deciding on a dog

What are some reasons for getting a dog:

Companionship
Playmate for kids
Protection
Hunting or other activity
Status symbol

Some dogs are able to fill all of these expectations, while others will not.
You will also need to think about your own life style and situation.

In selecting your dog or puppy, you must also be aware of how much exercise a particular breed might need and are you in position to fulfill that need?

How much time do you have available to devote to your new friend? Are you ready to spend the next 9-18 years taking care of your pet?

All of these reasons should be taken into consideration before adding a pet to your home.
